A resident in the neighborhood was questioned by the police about his mail being found in another persons car.  This person was pulled over by the Raleigh police because her Lexus was obtained by questionable means.  We belive that most of the mail found came from a single house, a rental sublet to multiple people.  There is a possibility that  the mail that was found for this particular resident was because it was delivered to the wrong house, the house being sublet.   If there were any other residents with stolen mail, the police should have already contacted them.

To keep up to date, please read these string of emails....

Hi All Kitts Creek Residents,

I wanted to pass on an incident that happened to a resident last week.

"A woman was stopped for a traffic violation in Raleigh and the police found a bunch of our mail in her car. Morrisville police visited us Thurs. night and told us they had found bank statements, credit card statements, etc. and that there were others in the neighborhood who had mail in her car as well. She was even using a home on Legendary Lane as her home address! We haven't yet been able to verify whether she opened any accounts yet. I guess the real issue for our neighbors is that we don't know who this woman is... I think it was probably someone taking mail out of the mailbox."

There is no real solution to prevent this crime but here are some precautions that you can take to minimize risk:

  • have bank statements, credit card statements, investment statements, etc. sent electronically, if possible
  • change your online passwords of your bank accounts, credit card accounts, investment accounts, etc.
  • have a neighbor, who is home during the day, pick up your mail.  (I've noticed that the mail can arrive anytime between noon and 2:30 pm).
  • get a PO Box.

The Morrisville police has yet to give me any details.   I have called the Chief of Police in Morrisville to see if I can get more answers.

I did  get more information from the resident this morning....

"We're still trying to figure out who this woman is and if she actually lived in Kitts Creek or if she was part of a cleaning crew or if it was a random theft. Morrisville police visited us again yesterday and were asking about the folks who lived in the yellow house... The kid (Robin) that owned the house rented rooms and she may have lived there at some time. Ughh!  Anyways, I should be talking with the police again later today and will keep you in the loop."

Please let the police know that there have been about 5-7 people living in Robin's house over the last year. No one has lived there since the first week of April 2008.  The mail may belong to the previous renters.

She might have drove by and grabbed all of the mail in the box, which could have contained other renter's mail. I am attempting to give her the benefit of the double....  If the address is the same, the police will figure it out pretty quickly.  And I will sleep better knowing that some criminal isn't driving around our neighborhood filtering through our mailboxes.

All I know for sure at this point is that mail from us and 8 or so of the people who lived in the yellow house ... over the past year and a half showed up in her car. They are trying to track down the guy who owned the yellow house and see if he has any record of who was living there. I would assume that if there were any other folks in the neighborhood with stolen mail, the police would have contacted them.  I am sure our neighbors are worried but I think it is best to get the word out...check your credit reports and bank statements just in case. Sorry to stir things up but even if I wasn't a target, I would like to be in the know. Better to nip it early rather than later.
